Whenever I come across a yarn I really like it gets me super excited and inspired to try out new projects. I’m sure you’re the same….too many ideas, too little time! So sometimes I like to put aside the endless ideas in my head (as well as the endless amount of WIPs) and force myself to create something from beginning to end. I find kits the perfect way to do this. I wanted to share a Hoooked kit review with you today and also offer you a special little something at the base of the post, so keep reading!

Hoooked yarns

You may remember a while ago I shared my love of T-Shirt yarn by Hoooked, if not, you can take a read of this blog post later. Once I discovered the brand I became, well…..hooked (pun totally intended!) and have tried out a few of their ranges since then. My latest make is this little fella. Meet Rue! Isn’t he adorable?¬†Rue is one of the many Amigurumi creations available of the Hoooked website (check them all out here). Rue is my favourite, closely followed by Lewy Lamb! Leave me a comment at the bottom of this post and let me know which one is your favourite.

Aside from their modern and bold designs, one of the things I love most about Hoooked is that their products are 100% recycled or made of left over materials. It’s something that is strong throughout the core of their business and shows that they are considering durability and responsible enterprise as well as being super creative and fashionable.

Within the kit you get the sufficient yarn for the project, a crochet hook, your pattern and a cute little bell! The only thing you need extra is your stuffing, scissors and a darning needle.

I got to work creating Rue with the easy to follow instructions. I was very impressed that the written instructions came in English, Spanish, French and German! You can work each section in any order you like, but I like to make a big impact straight away with a project like this so I started with the body and the head. Slowly he started to take shape and with each section made came with a huge level of satisfaction.

The yarn that came in the kit was part of their Eco Barbante range which is a recycled cotton yarn that is produced in a sustainable way, respecting nature. It consists of 85% recycled cotton and 15% other recycled fibers and I really enjoyed working with it.

Top Tips for creating your project:

  • Working in the round can sometimes cause your fingers to ache due to the way you have to hold and move your yarn. I’d suggest doing a few pieces at a time to keep your hands nice and relaxed.
  • Leave long enough ends so that you can sew together your sections without having to attach more yarn.
  • Once you have connected each piece, don’t snip off your yarn until you are happy with the end result. This will help if you need to re-adjust any sections.
  • Take your time when embroidering the face. It can take a couple of attempts to it looking the way you want.
  • Use the ‘Rule of three‘ when sewing in your ends to make sure they don’t come undone.

I’m SO pleased with how Rue came out and I’m really looking forward to incorporating him in our Christmas decor this year and for many years to come! I was really impressed with the kit itself and the quality of the finished project is excellent. The Eco yarn created a sturdy result and easy to manipulate into the shape you need it to be.
