March 8, 2020 at 8:23 pmHi there can you tell me how many to chain (multiples) to make a larger blanket please? Easy and Fast FREE Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern
BellaCocoTeam
April 2, 2020 at 8:41 amHi Donna this would really depend on what yarn you use, the hook size and your tension, the best thing for you to do is to chain until it’s the size that you require 🙂
Ashley
November 14, 2020 at 2:03 pmIf you make this pattern wider, do you make more rows to make it longer? How would you both make it longer and wider? And how would I adjust the number of balls of yarn I’d need? First time crocheter here!
BellaCocoTeam
November 19, 2020 at 8:08 pmIf you make it wider you would need to add more rows to keep the same dimensions; so you would just chain more to begin with and then keep adding rows until you’re happy with the size The amount of yarn is harder to gauge but if you wanted to make a blanket double the size, you would need twice the amount of yarn, for example. Hope this helps.

May 28, 2020 at 10:47 pmHi – will any chunky yarn be suitable for this pattern with an 8 mm hook?
BellaCocoTeam
June 4, 2020 at 2:07 pmAs long as you are using the hook size that’s stated on the band that comes with the yarn then it will be fine – usually for chunky yarn you would use a 6mm or 6.5mm hook

April 13, 2020 at 6:41 pmBeautiful blanket pattern! To make it larger does the foundation number of stitches have to be divisible by a certain number? For example: I Just finished a different blanket using US double crochet and it had to be divisible by 6. Thanks in advance.
BellaCocoTeam
April 15, 2020 at 5:24 pmThank you, I’m glad you like it No, the great thing about this pattern is you can chain to whatever length you want – just remember to add 2 for your turning chain.

April 21, 2020 at 12:26 amI have just loved your tutorials. I’ve learned everything I know about crochet form you! Can a foundation stitch be used here instead of chaining and then going back? If so, how many stitches for Row 1 in order to make this same sized blanket
Thanks so much!
BellaCocoTeam
April 23, 2020 at 8:06 amThank you so much, I’m so happy you find my tutorials helpful. I’ve not made this particular blanket using a foundation stitch instead of a normal chain, but I would make 53 stitches as in the normal pattern and then check the sizing.

October 18, 2020 at 6:10 pmI am slightly confused regarding rows 2 and 3. It looks like in the video for row 2, you are stitching through both loops of the chain, and then in row 3, it looks like you are stitching in only the top of the chain? Please advise which is correct. Thank you.
BellaCocoTeam
October 20, 2020 at 11:07 amHi Linda I think it’s not very clear in the video but I’m working through both loops of the chain in both rows I find this gives a neater finish but if you only work through one loop that would also be fine.

November 25, 2020 at 5:01 amHi Mrs.Bella!
My name is Zoe and I’m 12 years old. I taught myself how to crochet during the national lockdown in March through yours and “hooked by robins” tutorials. I am proud to say I am making everyone’s Christmas gifts this year and a lot of my family members are receiving this blanket in their favorite colors for a great lap blanket. I just wanted to say how much you’ve helped me grow as a crocheter and have brought me so much joy in these hard times. I cannot wait to try some of your more complex granny square afghans. Thank you so much!
All my love, Zoe madeline

December 30, 2020 at 1:05 amI recently got into crochet and came across your videos on Youtube. You broke everything down so easy, I love it!! January 19, 2021 at 4:54 pmHi 🙂 I am a complete beginner at crocheting. I really love this blanket and think you are amazing at showing how to do it. I was wondering if you have a pattern or something that uses the same stitches as this blanket but using 3 colours please? Thank you in advance for any help!
BellaCocoTeam
January 28, 2021 at 1:13 pmHi Leonie Thank you so much If you wanted to work this same pattern but using three colours you can just change colour at the end of a row in the same way as you would do normally; if you need to you can take a look at my tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaIuAWV2BA4&t=74s . I find it can help to make a rough sketch or drawing of the blanket beforehand – you don’t need to be good at drawing – to help visualise where you want each colour to be. Hope this helps!

March 3, 2021 at 2:38 amQuestion: I create my chain of 53, adding two for turning, and when I go to create my first row of stitches I repeatedly end up one short (52). Any clue as to why this keeps happening?
BellaCocoTeam
March 5, 2021 at 8:06 pmHi Gwen If you are sure that you’re chaining the correct amount, and are working into the correct chain to begin with, it sounds like you could be missing out one chain at some point. The stitch the blanket uses doesn’t actually have to be worked in a certain multiple however, so even if you are a stitch short you can continue and the pattern will work out fine

March 21, 2021 at 6:09 pmHello – this is my first time doing crochet, and when I do the third line, I got myself a circle somehow? and my whole line is wavy not straight, am I holding too tight and making it curve? do you have some really beginner videos for making this blanket? thank you kindly Lisa
BellaCocoTeam
March 23, 2021 at 10:40 amHi Lisa I do have a beginners tutorial on how to make a half treble, which is the stitch used in this pattern; you can find the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwT2_Vhue7w&t=577s If your blanket is curling up into a spiral that’s normal and will straighten out as you add more rows, but if it’s curving down into a rainbow shape it means your starting chain is too tight. To solve this you can go up a hook size for your chain stitches only. Hope this helps

March 12, 2021 at 6:48 pmhow many chain stiches does it take to make a 10ft by 10ft blanket
BellaCocoTeam
March 14, 2021 at 4:15 pmThis is a really difficult question to answer as it would depend on the type of yarn you are using, your hook size and your tension. Just chain until you get to your desired width 🙂

April 7, 2021 at 7:55 amHi sarah, I have been struggling recently to decide on what to make, i was wondering if you have any patterns that only need 300g to make? Sorry to trouble you
BellaCocoTeam
April 9, 2021 at 6:14 pmYou don’t say what weight yarn you have, but 300g of DK yarn is enough to make a small baby blanket I would look at patterns that work in rounds such as a 12 point star, or a granny square as you can keep working these until you run out of yarn. You could also work a c2c pattern; just keep increasing until you have used half of the yarn before you begin the decrease. I also have lots of patterns for scarves and other garments on my blog if you don’t want to make a blanket
LaVelda
April 11, 2021 at 7:32 pmCan you any yarn besides chunky?
BellaCocoTeam
April 13, 2021 at 2:27 pmYou can use whichever yarn you like as long as you use the corresponding hook, please be aware that the size will differ if you are using thinner yarn 🙂

May 6, 2021 at 6:05 pmHi there!
I’m a left hander just learning to crochet and watched your LEFT HANDED CROCHET |FAST AND EASY BLANKET video which I thought I might give a try (I am doing donation blankets for newborns) and tried to save the free pdf, but it’s coming up as L2. Am I doing something incorrectd to get the free pdf?
BellaCocoTeam
May 7, 2021 at 6:25 pmHi Cathy their is a small charge for the printable Ad-free pattern – this is what it says on the blog “If you prefer to PRINT your patterns or save them to a device, you can find the low-cost ad-free PDF HERE on my website or HERE on LoveCrafts. This PDF also includes additional layout idea” 🙂

June 27, 2021 at 12:40 pmHello, is it possible to make this pattern using Wendy with wool Aran ? If so what size hook ? Thanks. Sue
BellaCocoTeam
June 30, 2021 at 6:23 pmYou can use any yarn for this project, but bear in mind that for thinner yarns than the one shown, you will need to create a bigger starting chain (it can be in any multiple). It should state which hook size to use on your yarn, but for aran I would normally start with a 5mm

July 9, 2021 at 1:54 pmHi, I’m doing this blanket using one color, do I need to do any stitches when I finish?

July 13, 2021 at 4:00 pmHi Mezna If you are making it all in one colour, you just need to sew in the ends from any new balls of yarn that you’ve attached and you’re done

November 2, 2021 at 10:33 pmHello, I have been following your tutorials over lock down and have fallen in love with crocheting! Are there any special instructions for washing this blanket, my yarn says hand wash only, apart from that do you have any advice for washing it? I don’t want to ruin it with its first wash. Thanks!
BellaCocoTeam
November 9, 2021 at 12:57 pmHi Hannah I would just normally follow the instructions on the yarn label. If you are concerned maybe you could put it in a wash bag or pillowcase? 🙂

March 29, 2022 at 9:03 pmIf I accidentally went into the next stitch instead of skipping one after you chain 2 and turn
Will it turn out ok. I realized it at the end of my 11th row. This is my first attempt to make something. Your left handed tutorials are very helpful.
Thank you
BellaCocoTeam
April 1, 2022 at 8:03 pmYou’re welcome, I’m glad you find them helpful It won’t be a problem if you’ve been making your first stitch directly under the chain as long as you keep this consistent throughout the rest of the blanket. As you’re not counting the turning chain as a stitch in this case, you don’t need to work into the top of it on the subsequent row.
Sasha
May 15, 2022 at 10:06 amWhere am I going wrong? If I don’t put a stitch into the bottom of the chain 2, I end up with 52 stitches. I definitely did 53 + 2 on the foundation chain. I can’t see that I’ve missed any stitches either
P.S. love your video tutorials. They taught me to crochet ❤
BellaCocoTeam
May 17, 2022 at 2:41 pmI’m really happy to hear that you like my video tutorials It’s very easy in this pattern to miss working into the top of the turning chain when you reach the end of the row – if you skip this you’ll end up a stitch short each time. You can loop a stitch marker through the top of the chain as you make it to help you locate where to put the stitch.
Kayla
October 14, 2022 at 5:15 amHello! Found your video and absolutely love how it’s turning out! One problem I’m coming across is one side of my blanket turns out looking wider then the other and the edges don’t look straight even when I count the 53 each row… is there something I can do to resolve this? I just took apart most of it to try again 🙁
BellaCocoTeam
October 18, 2022 at 3:51 pmHi Kayla I’m glad to hear you like it If you’re sure you have the correct number of stitches then this could be down to a tension issue – often once we relax into a project our tension also relaxes and becomes looser. I do have a tutorial with some hints and tips for tension here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRVA_4uNsNw

August 18, 2023 at 3:17 pmThe foundation chain is slightly rainbowing. I am currently on the 10th row and everything else is looking good. Is there a way to loosen my foundation chain without unraveling the entire thing?
BellaCocoTeam
August 24, 2023 at 8:15 amYou could try blocking the bottom of your blanket to see if you can stretch it out, but unfortunately it’s normally a case of starting again when this happens. If you go up a hook size for your foundation chain and then size back down, you can avoid it happening again
K
August 19, 2023 at 5:29 pmHow can I even out the edges /sides of the blanket after finishing it?
BellaCocoTeam
August 24, 2023 at 8:15 amHi You could work a round of double crochet stitches (US single crochet) around the blanket which will make the sides look neat and tidy

January 13, 2024 at 11:16 pmHello! I’m making the gauge swatch and it is coming out the wrong size but I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. The 5 rows are measuring 4” high, but are measuring closer to 7” long with 9 sts. Do you have any suggestions for how I can adjust? I’m using Bernat Blanket yarn and 8mm hook.
BellaCocoTeam
January 17, 2024 at 8:00 pmHi Kelsey, it can be tricky sometimes to meet the gauge exactly. This blanket can be worked in any multiple so you may want to adjust the number of stitches you’re chaining in the beginning so that it works up to the right size
